Vampire Lines & Their Powers

This is a quick, cut and dry handbook for people planning, or currently playing supernatural creatures. This guide is an continuation of this guide. Gideon took that amazing piece of work expanded it with the help of some members of the guild. In HR this is how we use and interpret the lore and abilities of the various known bloodlines of Vampires in Tamriel. The bonuses and weaknesses are considered canon and used in the character sheet system. This post is required reading for all members of the guild.

Vampires

There are a great many clans of vampires, but only a few strains of the disease. Depending on what kind of Vampire you are will determine yours strengths and weaknesses. Below I will create charts for each. We will start with the major strains of the Vampire disease. Note that vampire characters planning to take part in events and stories will need to pay attention to whether it is during the day, or night. Vampires cannot cover themselves to ignore the daylight weakness effects.

Indistinguishable from the living if well-fed, these Cyrodiilic Vampires are cultured and more civilized than vampires of other provinces, using their stealthy abilities to feed on the sleeping and unaware. Calling themselves the Order, these vampires follow the Daedric Prince “Kin-father” Molag Bal, like many other vampires, but they also consider Clavicus Vile their patron. Glenmoril Wyrd

Porphyric Hemophilia
High Rock

The Glenmoril Wyrd (also known as the Glenmoril Coven, the Glenmorial Coven or the Glenmoril Witches) is a witch coven which once had a presence in High Rock, Hammerfell, Solstheim, Cyrodiil and Skyrim. The coven is notable for its ability to cure Lycanthropy and Vampirism. The witches have strong ties to Hircine. Many members of the coven are vampires who dwell within the cities of High Rock; The vampires in the Glenmoril Coven live in the Breton cities of High Rock, though no information about their abilities or feeding habits is known. It is known, however, that they are one of the tribes considered more intelligent (and threatening) by the Order vampires of Cyrodiil; possibly implying that, like the Order, they live disguised among the normal population as stealthy manipulators. Volkihar

Sanguinare Vampiris
Skyrim

The Volkihar vampires of eastern Skyrim are one of the more powerful lines of vampires. The more brutal and aggressive vampires live under haunted, frozen lakes and only leave their dens to feed. They have the power to freeze their victims with icy breath, and can reach through the ice of their frozen lake dens without breaking it. They are the earliest known vampire coven in Tamriel. The Volkihar vampires are relatively similar in appearance to those of Cyrodiil and they share some similar powers such as night vision, the ability to turn invisible and the ability to seduce others. Certain Volkihar vampires however appear more monstrous than their Cyrodiilic counterparts- some of them have large brow ridges, slits running through their lips, and bat-like noses, and they have powers which aren’t shared by the vampires of Cyrodiil—they can reanimate dead bodies and do not burn when in sunlight, however they are still weakened by it.

The Whet-Fang vampires of Black Marsh are known to capture victims alive and keep them in a magicka-induced coma, allowing the vampires to extract blood at their own leisure. The Order vampires of Cyrodiil believe the Whet-Fang vampires to show “signs of enlightenments”, regarding them as more intelligent than the other “barbaric” tribes. For this reason, the Order considers them a possible threat to their dominance in Cyrodiil.

Werebeasts

Lycanthropy

Lycanthropy is a supernatural condition that causes a person to transform into a were-creature: an unnatural crossing between a beast and their original species. Originally created by the Daedric Prince Hircine, it has been called a disease, a curse, and a blessing. Lycanthropy is contagious, and not selective about who it afflicts; most mortal races are susceptible to it.

There are several known strains of this condition, most of which are specific to certain regions of Tamriel. However, the most common strain – which causes the afflicted to turn into werewolves – is known to occur across the whole of the continent. Strictly speaking, the word “lycanthrope” originally referred only to this strain, but it has long been used to refer to anyone who undergoes a similar beast transformation.

May show signs of lycanthropy in human form (Eyes, teeth, ears, body bulk, etc)

Transformation

The circumstances of the transformation seem to vary wildly between individuals (or perhaps between strains of lycanthropy). Some lycanthropes transform monthly, or even nightly. Others seem able to choose the times of their transformations, even able to give up transformation entirely. The strength of the bloodlust also varies, with some individuals experiencing an uncontrollable desire to kill, and others able to maintain nearly complete control during a transformation. In the worst cases, an individual who lacks the willpower to control a transformation may go feral, becoming little more than a mindless beast.
